A Guide to Golf Impact Indicators
What is a Golf Impact Indicator and How Will it Help My Game?
A "Golf Impact Indicator" is a golf training aid spray or tape that you apply to your club head. After the ball is hit you can see the location of impact on the club's face. Impact sprays or impact tapes are designed to give instant feedback so you can correct your swing to find the sweetest spot between the club face and ball. This helps your stroke achieve more accuracy as well as distance. These golf impact training aids are designed save you time when by quickly identifying incorrect techniques.
A Review of Golf Impact Indicators
1. Golf impact tape is significantly thicker than dust sprayed onto a clubface. The tape thickness lessens the club's impact, causing the flight of the ball to be lower. Golf spray dust allows the same flight trajectory as would exist with no application at all. The golfer using impact tape, therefore, will alter his or her swing in an effort to hit the ball creating the trajectory they want perhaps without realizing the lower flight is due to the tape. Most golfers are unaware that golf tape included this major defect.
2. Golf spray dust can cover the entire face of every club in the bag. Golf impact tape covers only part of the face (albeit most of it) and is very weak on big-headed drivers where coverage is missing about 25% of the face.
3. Many users of golf impact tape say they only get 3 hits at the most for one tape application when using a driver. Golf dust allows upward of a dozen hits per spray for drivers.
4. Gold impact tape is difficult to use on putters due to a lower impact force, making it difficult to see where the ball hits. Golf dust leaves a mark of about 1/8 inch in length and can be used for 20 or more putts.
5. For practice shots hit off a a driving range mat, golfers can apply the spray in a 6 inch square behind the tee. When the golf club contacts the mat prior to impact the golfer sees the swing path. This allows multiple hits for the same spray, showing the constancy of the swing. This is not possible with golf impact tape.
6. For shots hit with irons off a mat, spray the sole and then see what part of the sole comes in contact with the mat first. This gives an excellent picture of the club head orientation (i.e. flat, upright or what) prior to or at impact. This application can be very important for swing improvement. Golf impact tape cannot do this.
7. Golf dust spray is easily wiped clean from the clubs where as, golf impact tape ends up discarded trash,
waiting for delivery to the local landfill.
